The production will be a synopsis of Jerry's philosophy regarding science and religion with emphasis on how the human mind processes and interprets information. The documentary will primarily feature direct interviews of Jerry and include extensive video recording of illusions and magic, of his creation, and readings from his literary works. Wherever possible, interviews of Jerry's contemporaries regarding their direct knowledge of his talents will be included."

Reflections of 1972

In 1972, a few days before Christmas, an 11 year old boy looked you up in the phone book in Eugene, Oregon (it was Eugene, no?). He and his father were driving up from the Los Angeles area to Tacoma, Washington to spend Christmas with his family (his mom had traveled by plane). You answered the phone and the little boy boldly announced that he'd like to meet you. You invited him over to your house without hesitation. The boy and his father were of your kindness to me as a young magic enthusiast 35 years ago. From all that I've heard, this is the kind of person that you are. Thank you for inspiring a young boy so many years ago and for all our contributions to magic. I wish there were more people like you in the world.

I met Jerry Andrus about 10 years ago at the Magic Castle. I usually would visit him every time he was invited to perform in the Close up Gallery. He showed me his illusions and read poems he had written more than sixty years earlier. He was a wonderful human. I am grateful to have gotten to know him a little bit. I will always remember his kindness and goodness. Jerry was an inspiration!

a remarkable man

I've know of Jerry Andrus for seven years, beginning with a video that I saw at the Boston Museum of Science. In that video Jerry was demonstrating a few of his famous illusions. I'm a nut for illusions, so I made a video of the video -- poor resolution but enough to help me remember the effects. Later at the Mile High Magicians Society in Denver I learned that Jerry was a well-know magician. When I moved from Denver to Corvallis, OR, in 2005, I was very pleased to meet Jerry for the first time at a Ring meeting in Albany. Of course this was the ring he helped found. Right away he opened his case and removed one of his latest illusions to show me.

I was lucky and feel very honored to have been able to spend a lot of time with Jerry over the past two years. We went to magic meetings in Eugene, Albany, and Portland together, as well as to Corvallis Secular Society meetings. We went to the Amazing Meeting in Las Vegas this past January and twice went to the Skeptics Toolbox in Eugene. At each of these events Jerry was well known and well loved.

Jerry was talented and creative in everything that he pursued, from electronics to magic to writing to music and to art. Above all else, however, I'll always remember his moral code, which was derived from pure reason and clear logic. A true inspiration.

Powerful presence

Jerry had a powerful presence and a mind that constantly was curious about the way the universe works. I feel his presence around me whenever I look at a flower blooming or hear a songbird. His voice is the wind, his arms and legs the currents of the oceans of the world. Jerry is always with you, if you carry a sense of wonder. I loved the hours we spent praising the gift of life.

Young magicians were often afraid to approach Jerry, but those who had the courage to say hello were rewarded with wonder and kindness. Jerry usually performed the same magic routine every time at the Magic Castle. Zone Zero was one of my favorites. Jerry would frequently ask me if he flashed at certain angles. Often I would sit in a chair he designated to advise him whether he was angled out at a particular place in the room. Despite his ability, he was always working to improve his act. He gave everything he had for his audiences.

I am blessed to have known and loved this man. I know he is at peace he did the good work he was supposed to do. Please give my condolences to the family.
